LnCu<sub>3</sub>(OH)<sub>6</sub>Cl<sub>3</sub> (Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy): Heavy lanthanides on spin-1/2 kagome magnets*

The spin-1/2 kagome antiferromagnets are key prototype materials for studying frustrated magnetism. Three isostructural LnCu$_3$(OH)$_6$Cl$_3$ (Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy) have been successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal method. adopts space group $P\overline{3}m1$ and features layered Cu-kagome lattice with lanthanide Ln$^{3+}$ cations sitting at center of hexagons. Although heavy lanthanides in provide a large effective magnetic moment ferromagnetic-like spin correlations compared to light-lanthanides (Nd, Sm, Eu) analogues, holds an antiferromagnetically ordered state around 17 K like YCu$_3$(OH)$_6$Cl$_3$.

A series of mononuclear lanthanide complexes with chiral Schiff base ligands [Ln(FTA)(3)L] [Ln = Dy(1), Sm(2), Eu(3), Gd(4), and Tb(5), L = (S,S)-2,2'-Bis(4-benzyl-2-oxazoline)] were synthesized and characterized.
